What Is a Doula?
The original Greek word “Doula” means woman who serves. Doula is now known as someone who is trained to provide continuous physical, emotional and educational support to women throughout their pregnancy, birth and beyond. Doulas have also become known as a birth coach or attendant.
Meet The Doula
Sharin White is married to her best friend David and is the mom to four energtic children. She began her own birth journey in 2003 with the birth of her daughter. Sharin graduated from nursing school in 2005 and worked at Bethesda Memorial hospital and with Hospice of Palm Beach County. After moving to Georgia in 2008, she came to know the care and comfort of a doula and midwife with the birth of her first son. A Passion was born!
Sharin has become an asset by providing doula care to women in her community of Indianapolis, IN, encouraging and supporting them through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She is trained with DONA International, Waterbirth Certified through Waterbirth International. She has trained with Spinning Babies, as well as using a Rebozo during labour. In addition to 9 years of breastfeeding experience, she also volunteers with the Hendricks County Breastfeeding Coalition, one of the founders of the Hendricks County Perinatal Professional group, CPR (BLS) certification, and Neonatal Resusitaion Certification (NRP) Sharin has also attended workshops at The Farm Midwifery Center in Tennessee.
She enjoys coffee, gardening, her chickens and homeschooling her children.
